Our office not only provides employment services, but also, asses individuals for needs not addressed in their lives. We are fortunate to partner with dozens of other community based organizations and government agencies, allowing staff to provide referrals and couseling outside of the employment function. Referrals to social services include child care, transportation, meals, food stamps, health care, language skills, parenting skills, academic assistance, vocational and academic financial assistance, assistance with basic needs such as housing and utilites.
This activity is designed for youth who have little or no work history; it is a hands-on approach to entering the workforce. Staff will conduct a comprehensive assessment that will allow them to understand the youth's strength and barriers. This assessment allows both staff and youth to create a career plan that includes training needs, short term, and long term goals. Students are placed in leadership and work maturity skills training that aim at providing youth with knowledge and skills needed to obtain and retain employment. Next youth will be placed in work experience component that best matches their aptitude and vocation. During the paid work experience youth are matched with local business that allow for hands-on training, and are always provided support from their office contact. This experience has allowed many youth to transition successfully into the labor market.
This component is geared to the unemployed adults. Our experienced staff conducts a full assessment of each individual's skills, aptitudes, qualifications, and strengths. Next an employment plan is customized that meets the needs of the participant and the labor market. Employment skills training is provided that assists individuals improving thier skills such as interviewing, resume building, application, buisness conversational English, completing tax documents, and understanding the labor laws.
